March 1st – The Day After April: Today I wake and feel even lonelier, but I see positive potential. My heart shook much like the quake, then the pain was gone. The arctic breeze formed the fortress, barricading my fragile heart with pain. - Tupac ShakurHe wrote this after his divorce with April. Notice the despair and wound, yet there is a thread of hope here. He vaguely alluded to it, but it's presence kept him focused and moving on. Was it from God? From within himself? From others? We don't know, but we know this.. he got up and kept walking. I can relate to the subject matter, but my hope was in Christ and who I am in Him. Yes, I got up and kept walking as well, but knowing God has my back and and my future.

A Poem of Pain

God Is...
His time is perfect, mine is flawed.
His will is perfect, mine is weak.
His power is perfect, mine is limited.
His love is perfect, mine is selfish.
His knowlege is perfect, mine is limited.
His presence is perfect, mine is egotistical.
His word is perfect, mine is situational.
He is perfect, I am not.

Who Likes To Be Alone?
- Who likes to be alone?
- Who likes to lay their head down at night, with an empty space beside them?
- Who likes to eat dinner, with the evening sun setting in the window, by themselves?
- Who likes to go to church and worship, alone with empty seats between you and the next person?
- Who likes to go to the zoo, without one who can you share smiles, touches, and pics?
- Who likes to see a great movie, with no one beside them?
- Who likes to go the ballgames and watch a great play with no one to high-five?
- Who likes to hear a love song, feel the emotion, and no one to hide the tears from?
I used to not enjoy being alone...I'm sadly getting used to it.

Poem - Afraid To Be
Behind this mask I wear,
I wear so no one can see;
A boy inside this man, afraid to be.
Behind this mask, I breathe,
Behind 1,000 “friends”, no one can see,
A boy inside this man, afraid to be.
Behind this smile, I’m weak,
Behind this strength so meek;
A boy inside this man, afraid to be.

The Poet Who Did Know It
I wrote this poem after the arrival of my firstborn, Jon Mark.

The Lord is My Pastor
The Lord is my pastor, I long to hear his voice.
He makes me dive into his Word,
He leads me to quiet places of solitude.
He renews my soul.
He surrounds me with people for his sake.
Whether I receive praise or criticism, I will not give up,
For he is beside me.
His Spirit and Word they encourage me.
Even though my energy and passion sometimes runs dry,
He will strengthen me.
In the presence of his peace, He gives me courage to love.
Surely his guidance, wisdom, and Spirit will lead me
And I will serve on this earth as long as he grants me breath.
